Staff report

BATON ROUGE — As first reported by WBRZ, a 17-year-old local athlete from Ruston was arrested over the weekend and accused of raping a female in town for a high school track meet.

According to the report, Djoryen Jenkins was staying at the Embassy Suites at 4914 Constitution Ave. in Baton Rouge where the female told officers she was pushed into a stairwell and raped Friday night.

Jenkins told officers the sexual encounter was consensual. He was then booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for third-degree rape at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10.

School board officials confirmed Jenkins was a student of Ruston High School and released the following statement regarding the incident: “A Ruston High School student was arrested over the weekend as a result of an incident reported while the school’s track team was in the region for a state meet. When incidents of this nature are reported, they are immediately turned over to law enforcement for investigation and handling. Both Ruston High School and the Lincoln Parish School Board take the safety of our students seriously. We continue to cooperate with law enforcement but cannot comment further as this incident involves minor students.”

The LPJ is actively attempting to obtain more information from the arrest report from the Baton Rouge police office.
