Patrons at Texas Roadhouse in Ruston knew better than to dine and dash Monday evening.

After all, the place was full of cops!

Members of the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Ruston Police Department joined forces and teamed up with Texas Roadhouse in an effort to raise support and funds for the Special Olympics of Louisiana.

The event — known as Tip-A-Cop and Cover-the-Cruiser — saw law enforcement officers welcome guests, assist servers, and collect donations for the Special Olympics.

“We are so grateful for our communities generosity and support at the tip a cop fundraiser,” said Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Officer Chief Deputy Landon Hunt. “Also a huge thanks to Texas Roadhouse for hosting and for their patience as we learned the ropes of their difficult jobs.

“This event along with our law enforcement torch run help raise awareness and financial support for such a great cause.”

Customers were able to contribute Monday night by tipping the officers or by placing sticky notes on a police and deputy’s vehicle outside the establishment, symbolically “covering” it in support of the local Special Olympic Athletes.

According to Hunt, the event served as a statewide celebration of inclusion and support for Special Olympics of Louisiana. The local law enforcement officers were able to raise $875 in support of Special Olympics.

“The sight of colorful sticky notes adorning the vehicles became a powerful visual testament to the community’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowerment for athletes of all abilities,” said the LPSO Facebook post.

“The event not only raised funds but also strengthened the bond between law enforcement and the community, highlighting the positive impact that collective efforts can have.”
