Pursuit through Ruston streets prompts arrest

Franklin, left; Curry, right

Ruston Police booked a local man after he was captured following a pursuit through a residential area on July 1.

An officer on patrol attempted to stop Patrick Darnell Franklin, 39, of Ruston, for a traffic violation on McDonald Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. When the officer turned around to follow Franklin‘s Mercury Grand Marquee, Franklin allegedly tried to elude the officer.

The officer caught up with Franklin at the intersection of Mississippi Avenue and Farmerville Street. Franklin turned north on Farmerville Street, committing numerous violations as the officer pursued him with lights and siren activated.

According to the officer’s report, Franklin ran the stop sign at E. Georgia Ave. and Farmerville Street and continued east until he turned north on Willow Glen Drive where he ran another vehicle off the roadway.

Franklin circled through the El Jarrito Restaurant parking lot at Willow Glen and the South Service Road and then turned back southbound on Willow Glen. He abruptly turned into a business parking lot and pulled behind the rear of the building.

A passenger, Jermund Chantrez Curry, 32, of Homer, fled the car on foot, but he was captured after a brief chase. Curry was carrying a backpack which was searched. A single oxycodone pill was found. He was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of oxycodone and resisting an officer.

Franklin was taken into custody at the vehicle and booked at the detention center for aggravated flight from an officer.
