A New Orleans woman was arrested in Ruston after an off-duty police officer observed some suspicious activity.
Kayla Welker, 36, was arrested July 3 on numerous drug charges after an off-duty Ruston officer detained her as part of an investigation at a local convenience store.
On-duty officers who responded detained Welker while the investigation continued. An officer noticed Welker‘s body language indicated she might be looking for an escape route. As officers attempted to handcuff her, Welker pulled away and resisted.
When Welker was searched, she was found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and pills identified as gabapentin and clonazepam.
Welker was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of each of those drugs in addition to a charge of resisting an officer.
