A woman who witnesses say stole mail and packages from mailboxes was arrested in Ruston Saturday.
Courtney Michelle Dennis, 29, of Hodge, was arrested for theft of mail after a witness said a woman pushing a shopping cart on East Mississippi Avenue was allegedly taking mail from mailboxes.
Ruston Police found two flat screen televisions, bags of clothing, a garbage bag full of mail, packages, and other items.
Dennis claimed she found the bag of mail in the shopping cart and found the TVs on East Florida Avenue.
According to Dennis’s arrest report, a witness saw her run to an upstairs apartment on East Mississippi Avenue and take a package from in front of the door.
Police said Dennis told them she saw the package on the ground and the owner gave it to her.
The mail came from 18 different addresses on Farmerville Street, Memorial Drive, and East Mississippi Avenue, according to the report. Dennis told police she did not know she could not take other people’s mail.
She was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Bail was set at $5,000.
