Habitat for Humanity of North Louisiana proudly hosted a ribbon cutting and Giving of the Keys ceremony on July 31 for Christopher and Sherri Ball, the newest homeowners in Ruston’s growing Habitat Subdivision.

The home, built through the efforts of volunteers and the dedication of the Ball family, marks the second completed house in the new subdivision generously donated by Temple Baptist Church.

“We are delighted to have finished our second home in the newest Ruston subdivision donated by Temple Baptist Church,” said Justin Underwood, Chairman of the Board of Habitat for Humanity of North Louisiana. “We couldn’t be happier for Mr. and Mrs. Ball. They are such a deserving couple and they have been one of the hardest working families we’ve had the privilege to work with.”

As part of Habitat’s homeownership process, the Ball family completed over 250 sweat equity hours, working hand-in-hand with over 290 community volunteers to build their new home.

“Applicants go through background checks, credit checks, and must demonstrate a genuine need for improved housing conditions,” said Kathy Gardner, President and CEO.  “Along with these requirements they have to go to financial classes for 12 weeks on how to budget and how to take care of the home. Creating safe and healthy living environments is not just about the current homeowners, but also about positively impacting the homeowner’s future generations. We are changing lives and generations to come.”

The event was attended by many volunteers, board members and supporters, including Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker, who spoke on behalf of the City of Ruston. His remarks highlighted the city’s ongoing commitment to supporting affordable housing and community partnerships.

The home’s construction was made possible through the generosity of many sponsors and donors who contributed materials, labor, and financial support. Title sponsors for the build were:

  • Weyerhaeuser
  • Temple Baptist Church
  • HGA
  • The Hunt Family
  • Trey’s Landscaping Services
  • Origin Bank
  • First Horizon Bank
  • 318 Construction
  • PAC Roofing
  • Douglas Cabinet Shop

This project reflects Habitat’s mission to create safe, affordable housing and build stronger communities. The Ball family’s story is a testament to resilience, faith, and the power of community. Their new home represents more than shelter—it’s a foundation for a better future.
