RUSTON — The Vector Disease Control International reported two traps in Ruston that tested positive for West Nile virus, while noting that there are no positive tests of anyone in the area with the virus.
The traps are located in Zone 4 of Ruston – the first is in close proximity to Barksdale Street and the second is near the intersection of McDonald Ave and Poe Street.
The VDCI will be around the positive test sites placing door hangers and pamphlets on what residents can do to prevent the spread of West Nile virus. There will also be spraying in the evenings around those areas.
Both documents are included in links below in this story.
In the meantime, the public is encouraged to stay vigilant by removing standing water from their property that may collect in buckets or bird baths.
The VDCI conducts routine tests in the parish throughout any given week.
