A local man who fled a Ruston traffic stop was charged as a convicted felon illegally in possession of a firearm.
Famikious Leonard, 24, of Ruston, was arrested August 6 after he was stopped by Ruston Police for an obscured license plate.
Once Leonard stopped his vehicle, he got out quickly and the officer directed him several times to return to his vehicl. However, Leonard turned to run, according to the officer’s report. The officer warned Leonard that a TASER would be used if he did not stop.
Leonard continued running and the TASER was fired twice with no effect. Other officers arrived and managed to take Leonard into custody.
Leonard was taken to the Northern Louisiana Medical Center emergency room for treatment of the penetration of the TASER prongs.
A handgun was found in a boot in the vehicle. A record check showed Leonard was a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Leonard was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer, and the obscured license plate.
