Remembering Virginia Adeline Porter

Virginia Adeline Porter, a cherished soul who graced this world for 92 remarkable years, passed peacefully at her home on the morning of September 3, 2025, in Ruston, Louisiana.

Adeline was born in Waterloo, Oklahoma, on November 4, 1932, to Eivy and Peggy (Craighead) Carson. She grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma, where she was the devoted big sister to Forrest, Della, and Jo Ann.

On May 29, 1952, just one day after graduating from Ponca City High School, Adeline married her high school sweetheart, Chester Dwight Porter.   Adeline and Dwight went on to share 70 wonderful years together before his passing in 2022. Their bond was undeniable, and their love was evident to all who knew them.

Together, they raised three children—Janice, Julie, and Jerry. Throughout the many moves Dwight’s career required, Adeline poured her heart into creating a warm and welcoming home wherever life took them. She embraced each new community with open arms and, with her generous spirit, treated everyone she met like family.

In 1992, following Dwight’s retirement, they settled in Pierre Part, Louisiana, where Adeline found great joy in lake life. She embodied true southern hospitality, always opening her home to family and friends.

A gifted artist, Adeline shared her talents in painting, ceramics, and needlework with everyone she loved. Her creativity and vibrant spirit made the world brighter, and her dazzling smile lit up every room. Never one to be called boring, she brought humor and joy into countless stories—from jitterbugging on her 60th birthday (which ended in a broken ankle) to attempting cartwheels with her granddaughter (which resulted in a broken leg).

Above all, Adeline’s greatest joy was becoming “Mimi” to her four granddaughters, who were the pride of her life. Her legacy of love continues in the many family members named in her honor, including granddaughter, Christina Adeline, and great-grandchildren, Koda Adeline, Adalinne, and Porter.

Adeline’s life was a beautiful example of love, creativity, and joy. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Adeline is survived by sisters, Della Rein and Jo Ann Ports; her three children, Janice Jones, Julie Hiney (Richard), and Jerry Porter; grandchildren, Nikki DeOliviera (Bryan), Courtney Carlyle (Andrew), Christina Hiney, and Carleigh Hiney; step-grandchildren, Steve Jones, Jeff Jones, and Lori Jones; great-grandchildren, Adalinne, Porter, Evangeline, Koda and Briar; step-great-grandchildren, Maleena and Janell; sister-in-law, Nancy Porter; brother-in-law, Tom (Ronda); and multiple family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Chester Dwight Porter; parents, Eivy and Peggy; brother, Forrest; in-laws, Chester and Lela; brothers-in-law’s, Kenneth Porter, Wayne Glazener, Jack Rein, and Richard Ports; sister-in-law, Gayle Glazener, and son-in-law, George Lewis Jones.

Adeline’s burial will be a celebration of life later in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
