A Louisiana State Police trooper arrested a Ruston man earlier this week after stopping him for traffic violations and finding drugs in the vehicle.
Joshua O’Brien Owens, 32, was stopped on U. S. Highway 80 in Ruston about 10:30 p.m. on September 8. The trooper wrote in his report that Owens failed to dim his bright headlights and then drifted over the center line of the highway.
While the trooper was in his vehicle conducting a records check, Owens, who had been directed to stand at the rear of his vehicle, re-entered his vehicle and then threw an item onto the ground.
The trooper recovered a single Xanax tablet, and Owen said he had found it at a gas station. A search of the vehicle located a small bag of suspected marijuana. Owen said the marijuana did not belong to him or his passenger, but believed it belonged to others who had been inside his vehicle previously.
Owens was arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of Xanax, possession of marijuana, failure to dim headlights, and improper lane usage.
