Two suspects in a Sept. 4 homicide in Ruston have been returned to Lincoln Parish from Texas.
Virgil Mack, Jr., 31, and Kobe Ty’rell Mack, 20, both of Dubach, are facing charges in the death of Ontario Spivey, 35, of Ruston. Spivey was shot and killed at a convenience store located at 2500 West Alabama Avenue in Ruston Sept. 4.
The two were booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center last Thursday after a week in the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office jail pending extradition proceedings. Virgil Mack is charged with second degree murder. Kobe Mack was booked for accessory after the fact to second degree murder, misdemeanor probation violation, and a bench warrant for failure to appear in court.

A third suspect captured with the Macks, Kourtney Douglass, 37, of Ruston, remains in the Harrison County jail on a Texas charge of felony evading arrest or detention by vehicle. His bail is set at $50,000.
The three were caught after a wild high-speed chase across north Louisiana and into Texas, according to Ruston Police. Using recently implemented license plate reader technology; officers were able to determine their escape route. The suspect vehicle was detected traveling westbound on Interstate 20, and Louisiana State Police Troops F and G were notified. A state trooper with Troop G attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled, and a pursuit was initiated early Friday morning, September 5.
Through video surveillance, investigators identified both Virgil Mack and the vehicle. A City of Grambling Police officer at the scene was able to help identify the suspect. An alert was quickly issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies.
The chase continued across the state line and the vehicle crashed in Marshall, Texas. Following the crash, the three were taken into custody by Texas authorities.
Ruston Police Chief Eric Watson praised the rapid and coordinated response that led to Mack’s capture including work by the Grambling Police Department, Louisiana Tech University Police Department, Louisiana State Police, Shreveport Police Department, Marshall [Texas] Police Department, Harrison County [Texas] Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Ruston Police said last week that the investigation of the incident continues. No motive for the shooting has been released.
