Man booked for three hit and run crashes in Ruston

An Indiana man was arrested in Ruston after he was involved in crashes at two convenience stores and then left the scene.

Andre Cross, 59, of Elkhart, Indiana, was arrested Sept. 9 for three counts of hit-and-run driving and obstruction of justice.

Ruston Police were notified that a box truck had hit and damaged property at a convenience store/gas station on the South Service Road and left traveling east. The truck was located nearby by an officer and stopped. The victim at the convenience store said the truck hit a pole on the parking lot and then another vehicle and left the scene. A few minutes later, another report was received that the truck had damaged two gas pumps at a convenience store on West California Avenue.

Cross confirmed he hit the two gas pumps and the pole and a vehicle at the second convenience store.

An officer asked Cross for consent to search the truck and a drug detection dog was brought to the scene. The canine alerted multiple times to the vehicle, but the cargo area was locked by a padlock and Cross refused to assist officers in opening it. He was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
