Man admits DWI on Ruston stop

A man arrested by Ruston Police for his second DWI immediately admitted his guilt when stopped for a traffic violation last week.

Johnny Gonzales, 50, of Ruston, was stopped about 11:50 p.m. Sept. 12 after an officer saw his vehicle cross the center line into the opposing lane twice on La. Highway 33. When an officer approached him, Gonzales said he was going to jail because he had been drinking.

The officer detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Gonzales who performed poorly on a battery of field sobriety tests. He attempted two tests but refused to attempt the third.

Gonzales was arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where he refused to submit to a breath test. He was booked for second offense DWI and careless operation of a vehicle. Bail was set at $3,500.
