Remembering Marianna Whitlock Cooper

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18. It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Nana, on Friday, October 10, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Marianna Whitlock Cooper was born in Ruston, Louisiana on December 3, 1945, to the late Shelby and Allene Whitlock. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of almost 62 years, Woodie; her brother Howard Whitlock; her children Gretchan Cooper Anderson (Bret) and Jeffery Cooper (Candace); granddaughters: Kendall Anderson, Cooper Anderson, Greta Anderson, Maggie Anderson, Farryn Hanvy (David), Caroline Cooper (Rush Chapman) Harley Cooper; and great-grandchildren: Austen Wood, Brady Hanvy and Chloe Murray; as well as many more relatives and friends.

Our Nana found joy in the simple things: creating a lovely home, cooking, and sewing. She was a self-taught and gifted seamstress. She created everything from dresses to elegant quilts. Her seven granddaughters especially loved the handmade Christmas stockings she hung for them on her mantle each year. Christmas was her favorite and making millionaire candy was her specialty. Every year her countertops were filled with the candy that she made for family and friends. We will cherish these memories of our Nana in our hearts forever.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5.

Woodie and Marianna were faithful members of Temple Baptist Church and are thankful for John King leading a Graveside Service honoring Marianna. The service will be held at 10 AM, on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Kilpatrick’s Memorial Gardens in Ruston, Louisiana under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes in Ruston, LA.
