
A Louisiana state trooper arrested a Dubach man last week on numerous charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon following a traffic stop.
Antonio D. Sims, 39, was arrested Oct. 9 after he was stopped for an inoperable headlight in Ruston..
The trooper stopped Sims’s Chevrolet Impala near on Farmerville Street and Mississippi Avenue. When the trooper contacted Sims, he smelled strong odors of marijuana and alcoholic beverage. Sims said he did not have a driver’s license.
A warrant check showed Sims was wanted by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department. He was arrested, and the vehicle was searched.
A trooper found a Hi-Point 9 mm pistol in the console between the driver’s seat in the passenger seat. A criminal history check indicated Sam’s is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Sims denied any knowledge of the firearm but claimed a backpack on the front passenger floorboard. Among other items, the backpack contained two 9 mm cartridges.
An open beer bottle was found on the rear passenger floorboard within reach of the driver. A driver’s license check revealed Sims’s license was suspended. His vehicle also displayed an expired inspection sticker and expired vehicle registration.
Sims was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, open container, driving under suspension, expired vehicle registration, expired inspection sticker, and improper headlamp, and the Lincoln Parish warrant.
