Pursuit and arrests follow gunfire at loud party

A loud party, gunshots, and a high-speed chase led to the arrest of two Ruston men in Lincoln Parish.

Cameron Wayne Turner, 20, and Myson Ramone Jackson, 19, were arrested Sunday night by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office after a pursuit southwest of Ruston.

Deputies responded to reports of a loud party on Belton Road at about 8:30 p.m. where gunfire had been heard. Upon arrival, deputies saw a man concealing an AK-style firearm in his waistband. As deputies moved in to make contact, the suspect fled in a vehicle. Deputies pursued and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Mondy Road, but the driver failed to yield.

During the chase, the suspect’s vehicle traveled at high speed in the opposing lane, sideswiping another car and running stop signs before pulling into a private residece driveway on La. Highway 818.

The driver, Cameron Turner, surrendered at the scene and was arrested. A passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Myson Jackson, initially fled on foot but was subsequently apprehended nearby.

Jackson was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for resisting an officer and and criminal trespass. Turner was charged with hit and run, aggravated flight from an officer (resisting by flight), criminal trespass, and no driver’s license.

On Monday, deputies were notified that another vehicle had been struck during the pursuit. The driver reported that while traveling on Mondy Road, he crossed paths with the pursued vehicle and something struck his windshield. A search of the area recovered an AK-style pistol (commonly known as a Draco).

At present, it is unclear whether Turner, Jackson, or their vehicle were directly involved in the shots fired at the Belton Road party. The investigation remains open, and additional charges may follow.

This incident comes amid a wave of deadly shootings across Mississippi over the weekend, which left at least nine people dead in multiple incidents, including a mass shooting in Leland that claimed six lives and injured over a dozen more. Authorities in Mississippi are also investigating lethal shootings during homecoming celebrations in Heidelberg and on university campuses. At least two men were found with firearms on the Grambling State campus during homecoming this weekend. These events reflect a disturbing escalation in regional gun violence, according to LPSO.

Sheriff Stephen Williams extended his appreciation to his patrol deputies for their swift and professional response in this case.
