Local high school golfers, swimmers fare well at recent competitions

GOLF

A pair of local golfers teamed up to capture the 2025 Louisiana Junior Cup held at Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport.

Cedar Creek’s Alex Roebuck and Ruston High’s Gray Ramsey helped the West Team capture the event.

Roebuck won all three of his matches to earn three points for the West Team while Ramsey won two and tied the third to earn two and a half points.

The Louisiana Junior Cup is an invitation-only tournament for the best juniors in the state. It uses a Ryder Cub format where the first day consists of two 9-hole matches. The first nine-hole match is best ball while the second nine-hole match is alternate shot. The second day is an 18 hole individual stroke match play.

Southern Trace has hosted this event for almost three decades.

SWIMMING

Swimmers from Ruston, Cedar Creek and Choudrant High Schools competed in the Red River HS Swimming Conference Championship meet on November 1 at Louisiana Tech University.  This meet included 159 swimmers from 22 teams from central and north Louisiana in all of the LHSAA Division levels.

“This meet is always bittersweet as we cheered on our three graduating seniors as they competed for the last time in their home pool,” Head Coach Paulette Butterfield said. “These athletes performed above and beyond at this meet showing their hard work this season with their performances.  This meet was a huge accomplishment for all of the swimmers as every single team member qualified for finals, placed in finals and contributed to their team’s points scored. All of the teams are headed to state in two-and-a-half weeks and we are looking forward to some more fast swims and exciting races.”

The Ruston HS boys team secured a first place team finish, with 454 points, over Holy Savior Menard and CE Byrd schools.  The Ruston HS girls team of 5 swimmers, earned 181 points to secure a third place behind CE Byrd & Alexandria schools.  Ruston also brought home the combined points scored team award.
