A Ruston patrol officer has been recognized with reacting to a suspicious vehicle and making a significant impact on one of Ruston’s most nagging crime headaches.

According to RPD, the officer’s attentiveness led to the arrest of three men connected to multiple vehicle burglaries across the area.

Dozens of thefts from unlocked vehicles have been reported to RPD in recent months, with thieves taking cash, credit cards, firearms, electronics, and other valuables.

At approximately 2:40 a.m. Wednesday morning, the officer saw a suspicious vehicle parked in an unusual location. Aware of ongoing vehicle burglary activity within the city, the officer conducted surveillance on the vehicle to determine whether anyone would return.

About ten minutes later, the officer observed three individuals dressed in all black approach the vehicle. When the officer attempted to make contact, the suspects fled on foot in different directions.

A brief pursuit ensued, resulting in the apprehension of Danell Grays, 19, of Arcadia, and Trindon Carr, 17, of Ruston.

RPD investigators were called to the scene to question the suspects. Investigators learned the identity of the third suspect who had fled the area and were given a description. While patrolling the area where the burglaries occurred, investigators located a man matching the description of the third suspect and took Kameron Cole, 19, of Ruston, into custody.

During the investigation, detectives determined Grays, Carr, and Cole were responsible for multiple vehicle burglaries, both on November 5 and over an extended period. All three suspects were transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for booking.

Danell Grays was booked for illegal possession of stolen things, seven counts of simple burglary by theft from a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana/synthetics, and unlawful sale, purchase, or possession of tobacco.

Both Trindon Carr and Kameron Cole were booked for seven counts of simple burglary by theft from a motor vehicle and resisting an officer.

The Criminal Investigations Division continues to investigate this case, and additional charges may be forthcoming, according to RPD.

The Ruston Police Department has repeatedly encouraged residents to secure their vehicles and remove valuables to help deter future thefts. Anyone with additional information regarding these incidents is urged to contact the RPD at (318) 255-4141.
