Woman strikes officer conducting investigation

A Ruston woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after she allegedly struck a police officer conducting an investigation and then resisted arrest.

Tatyana Randle, 26, was booked November 2 for battery of a police officer and resisting an officer after police attempted to interview her about an altercation involving her son and a teenager.

Ruston Police responded to Clinton Circle about 2 p.m. to investigate a disturbance. A 14-year-old youth told officers he accidentally poked a 10-year-old boy in the eye playing football. The boy’s mother named “Ty” was apparently upset and had chased him.

An officer located “Ty,” the mother, and learned she was Tatyana Randle. While trying to talk with Randle, the officer found a growing crowd was interfering and attempted to direct Randal to a patrol car for more privacy. At that time, Randle turned and struck the officer with a closed fist, knocking off his sunglasses.

The officer grabbed Randle, and they both went to the ground. Randle apparently suffered a laceration to the head at that time. The officer radioed for assistance as the crowd closed in. The officer and a backup who arrived took Randle into custody.

A police report noted that no officer ever struck Randle.

Officers attempted first aid on the laceration but Randle rejected those efforts until other officers arrived and applied gauze to the wound. EMS arrived and placed Randle in an ambulance but she refused to be transported to the hospital. She was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
