Kip Franklin is announcing his candidacy for the Mayor of Choudrant.

A lifelong resident of Lincoln Parish, Kip has lived in the Choudrant area since 1976 and in 2002 he and his family became citizens of the Village of Choudrant. Kip has served the public in many capacities and wishes to continue that service for the citizens of Choudrant.

Kip has served as the Director for the Lincoln Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness since 2010 and will continue to serve in that capacity. Prior to 2010 Kip served 31 years with the Ruston Fire Department. Kip has served as a volunteer firefighter for the Choudrant Fire Department and since 2003, has served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for the Village of Choudrant.

Kip currently represents the Lincoln Parish Police Jury on the 911 Communications District and serves on the Fire Training Commission for Lincoln Parish. Since February of 2020, he has served as the Chairman of the Regional Board for Region 8 of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness which includes 12 parishes in Northeast Louisiana.

Kip grew up in Ruston, graduating from Ruston High School in 1974. In 1976 he married Sharon Hammons, a lifelong Choudrant resident, and they have lived in the Choudrant area ever since. In 1984, he opened Kip’s Kabinets, a custom cabinet business and operated it until 2012. Kip and Sharon have two daughters, Jennifer Grafton, (son-in-law, Scott) and Jamie, both graduates of Choudrant High School. They have two grandsons, Wyatt (17) and Colton (13).

“It is my hope that as I campaign for Mayor of the Village of Choudrant to engage in visits with the citizens of Choudrant, and listen to their thoughts, concerns, ideas and needs for the Choudrant community,” said Kip.

“If elected, it my goal to see that tax dollars are spent wisely and efficiently, to work closely with other parish government agencies, keep open lines of communication with the citizens of the Choudrant community and look to the future growth of Lincoln Parish as a whole. I love the hometown atmosphere of Choudrant and plan to represent all it’s constituents.”
