Louisiana Tech safety Jakari Foster was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league on Monday.

The redshirt senior came up with two critical interceptions in LA Tech’s 34-28 overtime win over Liberty on Saturday and added eight tackles.

Foster’s first interception came late in the third quarter with the Bulldogs down 28-14 and Liberty driving. He intercepted a pass at Tech’s 4-yard line, setting up a 96-yard scoring drive that made it 28-21.

His second interception was the biggest of the night, as he picked off Ethan Vasko’s pass in the end zone on Liberty’s first overtime possession. Tech scored on the first play of its overtime drive to secure the 34-28 overtime win.

The redshirt senior leads the nation with six interceptions to go along with 48 tackles, three pass break ups, three quarterback hurries and one forced fumble. His six interceptions is the most by a Bulldog in a single season since Xavier Woods tallied six in 2014.

This marks the eighth CUSA weekly award won by the Bulldogs this season.
