Convicted felon arrested with guns after incident

A Lincoln Parish man was arrested on numerous weapon charges after deputies responded to a Madden Road residence to investigate an altercation.

Thomas K. Smith, 41, of Simsboro, was arrested Nov. 25 after a three-hour standoff with Lincoln Parish deputies.

A woman reported she and Smith got into a verbal altercation that turned physical. The woman said Smith was on crutches due to a broken leg and had attempted to hit her with a crutch.

The woman said she had to defend herself and restrain Smith. She said after Smith agreed to end the altercation, she released him and he attempted to strike her with the crutch again.

The woman said she fled the residence and then heard a gunshot behind her.

Deputies found Smith had barricaded himself inside the home. They gave several loud commands over a vehicle public address system for Smith to exit the residence with his hands up. These commands were given over a period of three hours with no response.

The Lincoln Parish Special Response Team was called and gained entry into the residence. Smith then made his presence known at the front door and was taken into custody.

During a search under the authority of a search warrant, deputies recovered three firearms inside the residence. The serial number had been obliterated on one of the firearms. Records showed Smith was a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Smith was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for resisting an officer, domestic abuse battery by aggravated assault, three counts of possession of a firearm by convicted felon, illegal use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
