RUSTON, La. — Looking to stay hot during this cold snap? Go watch some Ruston High Girls Soccer — a team off to a fantastic 5-0 start in the 2025-26 season. (Editor’s note: Please bring a jacket with you, just in case.)

The girls won two more matches this past week: first on the road against Haughton 3-2 and then at home Thursday 2-1.

“I am crazy proud of how hard these girls work and how much they still want to improve,” Ruston High Head Coach Jacquelyn Bean said. “North DeSoto is a good side and an athletic team, and we have split the contest two and two between our four meetings since I’ve been coach. We had the majority of possession in the run of play with chances in the first half.”

It was a game that saw Ruston control possession and attacking chances, it was a first half scoreline for both the Bearcats and North Desoto.

Freshman Emely Ulloa scored to go up 1-0, assisted by Kaelyn Huerta, her third assist of the season.

North Desoto would then respond on their second shot of the match. Goalkeeper Lily Slate made a great first save that led to a rebound and finish on the second shot to equalize it 1-1.

Then, with minutes left in the first half, sustained pressure by the lady bearcats would force an own goal off of a dangerous cross from Brailee Culbertson.

The Bearcats would control the game down the stretch to secure their 5th win of the season.

On Thursday, the Lady Bearcats were up 3-0, dominating play and possession. Two set pieces, one PK and the second a free kick outside the box in the second half allowed Haughton temporarily back in the game. Ruston would regain tempo and see out the remaining minutes to hold on for the 3-2 victory.

Ruston High returns to action next week on the road Monday, Dec. 8, at Northwood.
