Shoplifter found day after theft

A Ruston man was arrested Sunday after he was implicated in a shoplifting incident that occurred in a dollar store Saturday morning.

Adrian Jackson, 58, was arrested after police responded to a call and an officer recognized him from video of the shoplifting incident.

The Family Dollar store on South Monroe Street reported a shoplifting at about 10 a.m. Jan. 3. An employee told Ruston Police the man came in the store and shoplifted several items. When she confronted him, he said, “I’m sorry,” and left on foot.

Officers patrolled the area, but were unable to locate him. Video at the store showed the suspect place several items in his jacket pockets.

On Sunday at about 8 a.m., officers were dispatched to Sybil Drive regarding a man stumbling around in the middle of the roadway. A responding officer noticed he matched the description of the shoplifter the previous day.

Jackson initially denied being at the dollar store, but when told there was a video, he admitted being in the store and shoplifting items. When asked what he had taken, he said he could not remember but that he had sold the items.

Jackson was arrested for shoplifting and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
