LAFAYETTE, La. — Ruston High School’s Speech and Debate Team competed in the 43rd Annual St. Thomas More Cougar Classic this past weekend.

“This was our best showing all season. Out of 10 competitors that went to this tournament, all of them pulled to a final or semifinal round, with six of our 10 placing,” RHS Speech and Debate Coach Sydney Phillips said. “Ruston High also got 2nd in Sweepstakes, which is given based on the amount of points teams earn in total at that tournament. There were over 25 schools at the tournament, so this was a great achievement for us, especially given how few of our team were present. I’m so proud of all the hard work the team has put in over the holiday break to stay on the top of their game and not let any slip backs happen. We are in a great position for the rest of the season and I look forward to seeing what these great competitors will achieve as we make our way towards State this March.”
