LA Tech announces additional campus closure; local schools to make decisions Tuesday

Staff Reports

Louisiana Tech University made the decision Monday afternoon to extend its campus closure through Wednesday as roads were slow to thaw following the winter storm that blanketed the south over the weekend.

The University sent out a message to all faculty and staff through its website and social media channels announcing that Wednesday classes were also canceled. Tech had made the decision last Friday that Monday and Tuesday would be canceled.

“Our area continues to be under an extreme cold warning with significant ice accumulation on the roadways. To ensure a safe return to campus for our students, faculty, and staff, Louisiana Tech University will remain closed through Wednesday, Jan. 28. Tuesday’s temperatures will allow for some roadway melt but below-freezing temperatures overnight will likely result in iced roads. Visit ert.latech.edu to view full message with information about services available during closure.”

Grambling State, which also closed campus through today, has not announced its plans for later in the week.

Officials at Lincoln Parish Schools, Cedar Creek School, and Lincoln Preparatory School also said that they will make announcements sometime today on their plans for Wednesday. Those schools were all originally closed through end of today.
