Ruston man accused in domestic incident

A Ruston man was arrested Tuesday after police said a domestic disturbance was captured on video.

Kendrick Harris, 34, was booked on one count of domestic abuse battery with child endangerment on May 12 after officers responded to a Lewis Street address where a woman reported Harris pulled her hair and prevented her from leaving with her 3-year-old son.

According to an affidavit filed by Ruston Police, an officer on patrol near Lewis Street was flagged down by a woman who said she had gone to a residence in the 1100 block of Lewis Street to get her child from Harris.

The woman told the officer Harris pulled her arm and hair to keep her from leaving with the child. She also said Harris tried to get into her vehicle and take her keys to prevent her from leaving.

After being advised of his rights, Harris told police he was trying to get the keys until the woman calmed down. He also said he pulled on her and the child because he did not want the child to leave, according to the affidavit.

Harris denied hitting the woman and pulling her hair.

Police said surveillance video showed Harris trying to get into the woman’s vehicle. The video also showed Harris swinging and hitting the woman in the head while she was holding the child, according to the affidavit.

Harris was arrested and booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Bail was to be set following a domestic violence hearing.
