A gas pipeline explosion has prompted an evacuation of a neighborhood in northern Jackson Parish just south of Choudrant.
The Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office reports the blast happened at 9:38 p.m. off of Mosswood Road near La. 145 and La. 146. Several families were evacuated from the area by deputies.
Mosswood Road is closed to traffic at this time.
The cause of the explosion and the extent of damage to the area has not been provided by authorities.
Numerous people in Lincoln, Jackson, and Ouachita Parishes took to social media to report hearing a loud roaring sound after the explosion.
