Garrett Foundation awards grant recipients

Special to the LPJ

RUSTON, La. — The Garrett Foundation awarded $3,000 in grants to several organizations at Ruston High School as part of its annual effort to support student programs and campus needs.

This year’s gift was presented by Jeremiah “Hoss” Flournoy, the great-grandson of Hoss and Mary Alice Garrett, to faculty member Nick Brown, who directs the Bearcat Nation Network.

The funding will be distributed among Boys’ State, Bearcat Nation Network, the school’s sewing class and The Resume.

Established in 1996, the Garrett Foundation was created through a $50,000 anonymous donation honoring Coach and Mrs. Garrett for their impact on students and the Ruston High community.

Each year, interest earned from the foundation’s principal is used to support a school group, club, organization, student or campus need. Teachers submit written requests outlining the need, projected cost and intended use of the funds, which are then reviewed by a committee at the school and members of the foundation.
