For the 76th Annual Louisiana Peach Festival, presented by b1BANK, the sky will light up with fireworks about 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

Kudos to Joe Mitcham—who lost his entire peach crop to a March freeze—for shipping in peaches from out of state. I’ll miss my favorite Ruston peach varieties but a South Carolina peach is better than no peach at all!

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office reports the inmate litter crew collected 12,000 pounds (six tons!) of litter during the month of May. That’s 257 bags of trash from 88 miles of parish roads.

Russ Town Crossing, townhomes geared toward students, is under construction on Gaines Avenue off Cooktown Road between Johnny’s Pizza and the Waffle House. The fully furnished townhomes are scheduled to open Summer 2027.

Saw a notice that Delta Biscuit Company is interviewing for its new Ruston location in the historic Old Post Office. The job fair is set for June 23, 10am-2pm at the Lincoln Parish Library. Delta Biscuit is looking to hire 50 employees—servers, hosts, bartenders, baristas, line cooks, prep cooks, bussers, and dishwashers.

The newly restored Gem Theater in Dubach sold out its first weekend back in business after being closed for over 60 years.

Louisiana law now classifies intentional balloon releases as littering. Not sure how much that will help with our litter problem which seems to consist mostly of beer bottles, drink cups, burger wrappers, and deer corn bags.

Are you excited that you never have to pay for another inspection sticker? The law eliminating them doesn’t take effect until January but no citations will be written between now and then.

I have nominated a number of Louisiana Tech greats to the Athletic Hall of Fame and most have been inducted. I’m still hoping to see our first ever professional athlete, Ennis Oakes, added to the Hall. Oakes was a Bulldog outfielder in the early 1900s who played and managed in the big leagues.
