Ruston’s Owen Hebert has once again earned the opportunity to represent the United States on the international stage.
After qualifying through a series of American Grappling Federation (AGF) events held across the country, Hebert traveled to the Dallas-Fort Worth area this weekend to compete in the AGF Team USA Trials. Facing some of the nation’s top youth grapplers, Owen won the 15U division outright, securing his place on Team USA for the second consecutive year.
The AGF Team USA program identifies and selects the top athletes from qualifying events nationwide before bringing them together for a final trials tournament to determine who will represent the United States at the World Championships.
This year’s World Championships will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, where Owen will compete against elite grapplers from around the world while representing both Team USA and the Ruston community.
The accomplishment adds to an already impressive resume for the 14-year-old athlete, who is a standout competitor in wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and judo. Last year, Owen represented Team USA internationally and earned a bronze medal. He now returns to the world stage with the goal of bringing home a world title.
