Pounds of marijuana found on Lincoln Parish stop

Three Monroe men were arrested shortly after midnight June 13 following a Louisiana State Police traffic stop on Interstate 20 eastbound near mile marker 84 in Lincoln Parish.

An arrest affidavit identifies the men as Laterrance Tyquez Brothers, 21, Coron A. Buie, 22, and Cameron Miguel Powe, 25, all of Monroe.

According to the affidavit, a state trooper saw a white Ford Escape traveling east on Interstate 20 following another vehicle at an unsafe distance of approximately one car length. The trooper stopped the vehicle near mile marker 84 in Ruston.

The affidavit states the trooper made contact with Brothers, the driver, and advised him of the reason for the stop. Brothers provided his driver’s license and told the trooper he was traveling from Dallas to Monroe after visiting a friend. Buie told the trooper they were traveling from Shreveport to Monroe after visiting a friend.

The trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and conducted a search, finding about 6.28 pounds of suspected marijuana in the trunk and a Glock 45 9mm handgun in the back floorboard area.

The affidavit states Brothers, Buie, and rear passenger Powe were removed from the vehicle, handcuffed, searched and advised of their rights. All three denied knowledge of illegal narcotics, but Buie claimed ownership of the handgun, according to the affidavit. The three were transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for booking.

All three men were booked for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Buie was also booked for possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled substance. Powe was also booked on an Ouachita Parish warrant for domestic abuse battery with child endangerment.
