A Ferriday man was arrested June 14 following a theft investigation at the Walmart Supercenter on North Service Road in Ruston linked to other thefts statewide.
According to an arrest affidavit, Dexter Franchon Miles, 59, was spotted by Ruston Police after a call reporting shoplifters and taken to the Walmart asset protection office. Walmart personnel identified him as a suspect in a retail theft investigation.
The affidavit states Miles initially denied stealing items from Walmart. Asset protection personnel told police Miles had been identified through another theft investigation at a Walmart in West Monroe and was connected to multiple thefts at Walmart locations in
Louisiana. The affidavit states the reported value of merchandise associated with those incidents exceeded $12,000.
According to the affidavit, asset protection personnel provided receipts and photographs of merchandise allegedly taken from Walmart stores, along with documentation showing Miles had been banned from Walmart properties. The affidavit states Miles acknowledged the items shown in the receipts were easily resold and said the merchandise came from Walmart locations near Interstate exits to make resale easier.
After Miles was arrested, police conducted a search and found a small white pill container in his left front shorts pocket. The affidavit states a search of the container at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center revealed a white substance inside a pill bottle. Miles reportedly told authorities the substance was crack cocaine.
Miles was booked on charges of organized retail theft, entering and remaining after being forbidden, and possession of crack cocaine.
