Gerry later attended Louisiana Tech University, where she met her future husband, Gary Long, while working in the university library. The couple married on August 25, 1962, and built a wonderful life together in Bastrop, Louisiana.

A devoted wife and mother, Gerry dedicated many years to raising her three sons and creating a loving home for her family. She was a talented artist and crafter who enjoyed painting, pottery, and a variety of creative pursuits. Later, she served as Office Manager for Dreher Contracting in Bastrop for 17 years.

Following retirement, Gerry and Gary shared a love of travel and adventure. Together they explored many favorite destinations, including New Orleans, New York City, Hawaii, Barcelona, and Venice, Italy. They especially enjoyed cruising and were always planning their next journey.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Prentiss Clayton Colvin.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Gary Clark Long of Bastrop; her sons, Jeffrey Long and wife Dana of Acworth, Georgia, Dr. David Long and wife Fara of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Daniel Long of Marietta, Georgia; her sister, Beverly Cambre and husband Chuck of West Monroe, Louisiana; and her grandsons, Dillon Long of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Carson Long and wife Melissa of Birchwood, Wisconsin.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and compassion shown to Gerry throughout her illness.
