Ruston woman arrested in hotel theft case

A Ruston woman was arrested Sunday after police investigated the disappearance of a bag containing a large amount of cash from a local hotel.

Taylor Waldon, 28, was arrested June 21 and booked for felony theft following the investigation.

According to a Ruston Police report, officers responded to a local hotel after a customer reported inadvertently leaving a bag containing a large sum of money on top of an ice machine outside a room. When he returned to retrieve it, the bag was gone.

Officers learned the staff had reviewed security footage and identified two people as suspects. One person cooperated with investigators, while the second person, identified as Waldon, left the hotel before management could speak with her, according to the report.

Police contacted Waldon and took her to the Ruston Police Department for questioning. The report states Waldon initially denied knowing anything about the missing money.

After being questioned about discrepancies in her statement, Waldon admitted taking the money and said she had concealed it and taken it to her vehicle. Waldon then led officers to her residence on Terrill Drive where approximately $3,650 was recovered and later returned to the victim.

Waldon was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
