Arrests follow after truck reported stolen

A Choudrant woman was arrested Monday after Lincoln Parish deputies investigated a reported stolen U-Haul truck on Campbell Road.

Kamala Whitlock, 54, of Choudrant, was arrested June 22 for illegal possession of stolen things and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a report, deputies found a U-Haul parked in the travel lane of Campbell Road between two curves. Deputies made contact with Nathan Gonzalez, who immediately exited the truck and began discarding items from his pockets into a nearby ditch.

Deputies found a spoon with residue and a pair of brass knuckles on Gonzalez. The report states deputies also saw Whitlock sitting in the passenger seat.

Investigators learned the U-Haul had been reported stolen from West Monroe. Whitlock told deputies she and Gonzalez had been in possession of the vehicle since May and were aware it had not been returned for some time.

Whitlock said she the truck had been stolen from her and her son had just retrieved it. She said she was intending to return the truck that morning.

A search of the vehicle produced a plastic bottle containing suspected synthetic marijuana. The report states Gonzalez later claimed ownership of the bottle. Deputies also located a glass smoking pipe commonly used to consume marijuana in Whitlock’s purse.

Whitlock and Gonzalez were transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and booked without incident. Gonzalez, 34, was charged with illegal possession of stolen things, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstructing a public passage.
