Barbara was born on July 23, 1937 in Bernice, Louisiana to Elmer and Nancy Cooper and passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Barbara was a woman of strong faith, unwavering determination, and deep love for her family. Raised in humble circumstances, she learned the value of hard work at an early age. Among her many childhood chores were cutting and splitting wood with a crosscut saw, picking cotton, harvesting vegetables, and helping wherever needed. Those experiences shaped the hardworking spirit that remained with her throughout her life.
From the time she married until her final days, Barbara’s greatest joy was her family. While employed with the Ruston Police Department, she often worked additional jobs to help provide for those she loved. Her children never realized how little they had materially because their home was always filled with love, care, and devotion.
Outside of work, Barbara enjoyed her morning cup of coffee, visiting with family and friends, and the occasional trip to the casino. She treasured simple moments spent with the people she loved most.
Barbara courageously battled dementia for three years before suffering a fall that ultimately led to hospice care. Through every challenge, she remained steadfast in her faith and served as an example of strength and perseverance to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Guy Pilgreen, Jr. and Dallas Burns Hanna; and her daughters, Barbara Zeagler, Tawanna Pilgreen, and Debbie Hanna.
She is survived by her sister and last surviving sibling, Nell Barmore; son, Johnny Pilgreen; daughters: Tonya Norris and husband Chuck, Lana Noe, and Shelly O’Rear; grandchildren: Jeremy Pilgreen, Marshall Pilgreen, Adam Pilgreen and wife Magon, Dallas Herring and wife Kelsey, Dalton Brown and wife Ashlee, Mark Morales, Sadie Urban, and Cassie Castaneda; followed by many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren whom she loved dearly; and a host of other family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Pilgreen, Marshall Pilgreen, Adam Pilgreen, Dalton Brown, Cary Zeagler, and Chuck Norris.
Her life reflected the words of Proverbs 31: “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue; her children rise up and call her blessed; a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Barbara will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strong faith, her selfless devotion to family, her tireless work ethic, and the warmth and kindness she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
