Ruston area piano students place at the state piano rally competition

Courtesy report

The Louisiana Music Teachers Association recently sponsored the Torgrimson/Swanzy state piano rally competition in Baton Rouge. Students from across the state who attained high achievements in the spring district piano rallies were invited to compete in this event.

Three local piano students were honored by being selected among the competition winners. Patrick Singh was selected as winner in the Prep B division for 3rd-4th grade students, Lucas Chen was awarded an honorable mention medal in Level II for students in grades 7-8 and Preston Parker was awarded second place in Level IV for students in the 11th and 12th grades. Lucas is a student of Steele Moegle and both Patrick and Preston are students of Denise Cox.

The Ruston Area Music Teachers Association (RAMTA) sponsored a district piano rally prior to the state event. At the district level, students were judged and ranked based on their performance of three pieces by memory. The other categories of sight reading, a written exam, and playing keyboard skills, combined with their performances, allowed students to qualify for state or earn the outstanding achievement award. The following Ruston area students received awards at the district level in their respective divisions:
