Head coach Lane Burroughs and Louisiana Tech baseball announce the official signing of 6-foot 2-inch right-handed pitcher Ben McKinnon, joining the Bulldogs as a junior for the 2027 season.
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, McKinnon comes to Ruston after spending the first two years of his collegiate career at Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City. As a freshman in 2025, he struck out 70 batters across 70.1 innings, allowing 27 of his 38 runs as earned for a 3.45 ERA.
The White Rock, B.C. native went 7-2 through 14 starts, including a complete game. McKinnon faced limited time in 2026 with just eight starts, but still managed to post a 10.87 K/9 rate with 31 punchouts across 25.2 frames.
He was a First Team All-NJCAA Region 14 selection in 2025 before being named a NJCAA Division I Top 100 player in 2026 per Prep Baseball Report. McKinnon also competed in the 2023 Baseball Canada Cup Championships, representing British Columbia amongst nine other Canadian regional teams.
Prior to beginning his playing time at the college level, McKinnon played in the BC Premier Baseball League (BCPBL), which is the highest level of amateur baseball in British Columbia. He competed with the White Rock Tritons and helped his team to a BCPBL Championship in 2024.
