A suspicious vehicle investigation last week led to the arrest of a Ruston man.
Bobby Joe Barfield, 71, was arrested July 16 by Lincoln Parish deputies.
According to an arrest affidavit, deputies were dispatched to Rodgers Road regarding a suspicious vehicle. The caller said a vehicle was parked in the woods with the driver asleep.
Deputies located a silver Honda Civic parked in the driveway of what appeared to be an abandoned house. The driver identified himself as Bobby Barfield.
According to the affidavit, Barfield claimed he had broken down and pulled into the property which he owned. However, deputies noted they had previously come into contact with Barfield on numerous occasions regarding parking his car on properties and trespassing.
The records check showed the license plate on the Honda was registered to a Buick. Dispatch confirmed an active bench warrant for on a previous trespassing charge.
According to the affidavit, Barfield said he put the license plate from another vehicle he owned on the Honda. He also claimed he owned the property where he was parked. The area where Barfield was parked was marked with “Private Property” and “No Trespassing” signs.
A records search of the address showed the property was not owned by Barfield.
Barfield was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for failure to appear on a criminal trespassing charge, switched license plate, and criminal trespass.
