A Bossier City man was arrested on DWI and other charges early Sunday after Louisiana State Police say he briefly tried to evade a trooper during a traffic stop and was found carrying a fake Arkansas driver’s license.
Peyton M. Wilhite, 19, of Bossier City, was arrested July 19 by Louisiana State Police.
According to an arrest affidavit, a trooper observed a gray Chevrolet Silverado traveling west on West Alabama Avenue just before 1 a.m. when the vehicle made a sharp left turn onto Western Street and accelerated quickly toward the center of the roadway. At the end of Western Street, the vehicle turned sharply again without signaling, heading east on West Mississippi Avenue.
The trooper activated emergency lights, and the vehicle stopped on West Mississippi Avenue. The affidavit states the driver quickly exited the right rear passenger door in an apparent attempt to evade the trooper before being ordered to approach, which he did.
During the stop, the trooper reported smelling alcohol on Wilhite’s breath. Wilhite performed poorly on field sobriety testing, according to the affidavit, and was placed under arrest, handcuffed and checked for weapons. He was advised of his Miranda rights.
The vehicle was parked and locked at the West Mississippi Avenue address. Wilhite was transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for chemical testing, which he refused, according to the affidavit.
Wilhite was booked on charges of first-offense DWI, failure to signal a turn, improper lane usage and possession of a fake Arkansas driver’s license. Bond was set at $1,500 on the DWI count; he was released on his own recognizance on the remaining charges.
