by Malcolm Butler

Ruston voters will have contested races for mayor and one City Council seat on the Nov. 3 ballot, while four alderman races and the city marshal race drew only one candidate each following the close of qualifying Friday.

The mayor’s race will feature incumbent Ronny Walker, a Republican, against William Faulkner, who qualified with no party affiliation. Walker is seeking a fourth term as mayor, while Faulkner is making his first run for elected office.

Curtis Hawkins, a Republican, was the only candidate to qualify for Ruston City Marshal.

Four of Ruston’s five alderman races also drew only one candidate.

Carolyn Elmore Cage, a Democrat, qualified in Ward 1, while Angela Mayfield, a Democrat, was the lone qualifier in Ward 2. Melanie Lewis, a Republican, qualified in Ward 3, while John Denny, a Republican, was the only candidate to qualify in Ward 4.

The lone contested City Council race will come in Ward 5, where incumbent Bruce Siegmund and challenger Galen Turner IV are seeking the seat. Both qualified with no party affiliation.
