A Ruston woman faces drug and impaired-driving charges after deputies stopped her at a Choudrant store Saturday morning and reported finding individually wrapped packages of suspected methamphetamine in her purse and her car.
Jacqueline Casey Wilson-Sanders, 41, was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on counts of driving under the influence, first offense; possession and distribution of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; and resisting an officer, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy in an unmarked unit saw a black Dodge Charger turn north onto Louisiana Highway 145 from Pleasant Grove Road about 8:14 a.m. and followed it. The car crossed the center line five times and ran the stop sign at Highway 145 and U.S. Highway 80 before turning west onto Highway 80 and pulling into a parking lot.
The deputy identified himself and called for a uniformed deputy. When she was told to walk to a patrol unit, she reached for her purse and turned away.
A K-9 ran around the car and alerted on the purse, which was on the trunk. A search of the purse turned up multiple individually wrapped packages of suspected methamphetamine. Deputies also reported finding a scale in the center console and an eyeglass case in the glove box holding a smoking pipe and numerous bags of suspected methamphetamine.
At the detention center, Wilson-Sanders refused field sobriety testing but agreed to a breath test, which registered 0.00% blood alcohol. Because deputies suspected other intoxicants, a Louisiana State Police drug recognition expert was called to evaluate her. Wilson-Sanders consented to a blood draw at Northern Louisiana Medical Center before being returned to the jail and being booked.
Bond was set at $1,500 on the DWI count and $2,500 on the possession and distribution count. She was released on her own recognizance on the paraphernalia and resisting counts.
