Remembering Joseph “Jason” Butler

Joseph “Jason” Butler, age 52, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his parent’s home on August 19, 2026.   He was born on November 19, 1973, to Joe and Mary Butler.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 22, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Bernice, LA.  Officiating will be Rev. Reagan Colvin.   Interment will follow at Bernice City Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes.   A Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 am till 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Bernice, LA.

Jason was a professional welder and a member of First Baptist Church of Bernice, LA.  He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and spent much of that time on his family land in Bernice.  He was a passionate fan of the LSU Fighting Tigers Football Program.  He graduated from Bernice High School, and Louisiana Delta Technical College.  Jason also attended Louisiana Tech University.

Jason had many friends and was loyal to every one of them as they were to him.  He enjoyed having a good time with friends and family, especially when sports and good food were involved.   He had a loving and caring heart for everyone he knew and would even give the shirt off his back to a stranger in need.  He will be greatly remembered for his unique sense of humor and his winning smile. 

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Joe and Mildred Butler; Carroll and Mildred Mitcham; uncle, Bill Mitcham; aunt, Gayle Butler Madison; and cousin, Jack Mitcham.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Joe and Mary Butler; sister, Nicole Shepherd and husband Jeff; niece, Marisa Shepherd; nephew, Cole Shepherd; uncles, Robert Mitcham and George Madison; aunt, Judy Mitcham; and cousin, Jacob Mitcham.

Gone too soon, but will always be remembered and never forgotten by his loving family and numerous friends.

Pallbearers are Dallas Albritton, John Cook, Clay Farris, Bart Miller, Robert Mitcham, and Terry Joe Oliver.   Honorary Pallbearer is Clint Milner.
