Ruston man charged with simple escape

A 65-year-old Ruston man was arrested Monday on a felony count of simple escape after he walked away from a court-ordered rehabilitation program and did not return to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, according to an affidavit.

Karl E. Breazeale was booked into the detention center at about 3 p.m. Aug. 17 on one count of simple escape. He was rebooked on his original charges as well.

Breazeale had been released from the detention center on his own recognizance Aug. 14 after being accepted into the Louisiana Adult and Teen Challenge program in Ruston. Among the conditions of his release was that he return to the detention center within one hour of leaving the Teen Challenge facility for any reason. The order states that failing to do so constitutes simple escape. Breazeale was advised of those conditions before his release and signed a supplemental order of bail acknowledging he understood them.

A representative of the program contacted the detention center at 9:46 a.m. Aug. 17 and reported that Breazeale had left the facility around 1:30 a.m. He returned about 9 a.m. and was told he was being dismissed from the program, then left again on foot.

Ruston Police and sheriff’s deputies were asked to watch for him. Ruston officers located him about noon around Center Street and took him into custody.
