A Grambling man is facing three charges after deputies said he swung a fist at his ex-girlfriend, then twice pulled away from deputies attempting to detain him.
Jonathan Daniel Jackson, 43, was arrested Sunday afternoon on counts of simple assault, resisting a police officer with force or violence and resisting a police officer by refusing to identify himself, according to an affidavit.
A Lincoln Parish sheriff’s deputy was dispatched at 1:21 p.m. Aug. 23 to a Grambling residence in reference to an assault that had just occurred. The woman who called told the deputy that Jackson, her ex-boyfriend, had swung at her and attempted to hit her.
The couple had recently broken up and the woman had been trying to get Jackson to move out. She had been out of town for the day with her son, and Jackson had been calling and texting her throughout the day. When she returned home, Jackson was there, and a verbal argument began when she asked him to leave.
According to the affidavit, Jackson began yelling at the woman and calling her names, then swung his fist toward her face. She ducked under the punch and was not struck. Had she not ducked, she told the deputy, she would have been hit.
Jackson left before deputies arrived but returned while the deputy was still speaking with the woman. He got out of his vehicle and walked toward the trailer, and the woman walked away to avoid him.
The deputy tried to speak with Jackson away from the woman to prevent another altercation, but Jackson refused multiple requests to stop, saying he was going into his house. When the deputy attempted to stop him with an open-hand technique, Jackson yanked his arm away and kept walking.
Jackson was eventually placed in handcuffs, and pulled away from deputies again as he was walked to a patrol unit. Once inside, he refused to give his name or date of birth to verify his identity.
He was transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and booked on the three charges. Bond was set at $1,000 each on the simple assault and refusal-to-identify counts. Bond on the count of resisting an officer with force or violence had not been set.
