September is upon us and the crepe myrtles are still blooming. There’s a reason it’s called the “100-day flower.”

The big forest fire just north of us in Union County, Arkansas shows how conditions are perfect for wildfire. And the La. Department of Agriculture & Forestry says it has responded to 22 wildfires across Louisiana burning more than 109 acres. Lincoln Parish’s burn ban issued August 19 remains in effect despite a smidgen of rain because of elevated fire-weather conditions, high temperatures, and limited precipitation.

Louisiana Tech’s first football season back in the Sun Belt is approaching. The Bulldogs open at home against the Demons of Northwestern State Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
