RUSTON, La. Ruston High School is proud to announce that seniors Harper Anderson and Clayton Craig have been named Semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Harper and Clayton are among more than 16,000 academically talented high school seniors nationwide selected for this honor. Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and include the highest-scoring students in each state on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
To advance to the Finalist level, each Semifinalist must submit a detailed scholarship application highlighting academic performance, school and community involvement, leadership, employment, and honors received. Candidates must also be recommended by a school official, submit an essay, maintain an outstanding academic record, and earn an SAT or ACT score that confirms their performance on the qualifying test.
More than 15,000 Semifinalists are expected to advance to Finalist standing. Approximately 6,700 National Merit Scholarships, valued at nearly $24 million, will be awarded in the spring of 2027.
