A Bastrop man was arrested on the Grambling State University campus Sept. 7 after a detective found a handgun in his backpack near a student housing area, according to an affidavit.
J’keldric Omar Miller, 22, was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on counts of criminal trespass, carrying a firearm in a school zone, possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance and violation of a uniform controlled dangerous substances law.
A Grambling State detective patrolling near the express parking lot about 11:21 p.m. saw three men walking toward a campus housing area that is restricted to enrolled students and authorized guests. The detective made contact with the men to determine whether they were students.
Two of the men said they were not enrolled at Grambling State. Miller said he was. After the detective took their names and ran them through dispatch, none of the three came back as an enrolled student.
The three men agreed to let the detective search their backpacks. Inside Miller’s, the detective found a Glock 47 9 mm pistol. Miller was placed under arrest and handcuffed, and the pistol was double-locked and checked for tightness. He was advised of his Miranda rights and said he understood them.
Miller was taken to the university police department for processing. A more thorough search of his bag there turned up a jar containing THC wax. He was then transported to the detention center and booked.
The other two men, whose bags contained no weapons or contraband, were released.

Persons named or shown in photographs or video as suspects in a criminal investigation, or arrested and charged with a crime, have not been convicted of any criminal offense and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
