A Texas man was arrested in a Grambling State University parking lot early Sept. 9 after an officer saw what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction and found 44 grams of individually packaged marijuana in the trunk of his car, according to an affidavit.
Dabari Davis, 19, of Heartland, Texas, was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on counts of possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and violation of a uniform controlled dangerous substances in a drug-free zone.
A Grambling State officer on patrol about 1:45 a.m. saw a woman leaning into the driver’s-side window of a gray Dodge Charger in the Pinchback Hall parking lot and what appeared to be a hand-to-hand transaction. The officer made contact with the woman and the two people inside the car and identified the driver as Davis.
While speaking with Davis, the officer saw a boxed vape device on the driver’s-side floorboard and detected a strong odor coming from the vehicle. When the officer opened the trunk, the odor of suspected marijuana grew stronger. Inside an open black backpack was a clear vacuum-sealed bag holding several individually packaged baggies of suspected marijuana weighing 44 grams.
Davis was advised of his Miranda rights and then said the suspected marijuana belonged to him. He further admitted to selling narcotics on the Grambling State campus. He was placed under arrest and taken to the detention center for booking.
